About
Nu Phi Omicron, Inc. is a premier collegiate music organization that provides exceptional support to Louisiana musicians in college and Louisiana school performing arts programs. We are committed to promoting the growth and development of young musicians through community service and outreach programs.
History
Founded on the campus of Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Nu Phi Omicron (N Phi O) was established on November 27th, 1993 by six visionary men of music, united by their passion for band and the culture of their city. “The Original 6” laid the foundation for what would become a transformative force within the collegiate music community.
The journey of how N Phi O came to be takes us up north, with three men of music who went to Grambling State University. While there, they formed a group called the New Orleans Band Members Standing Together (N.O.B.M.S.T.), with passion and ideas similar to N Phi O of Southern University.
In 1997, a pivotal collaboration between Southern University’s N Phi O and Grambling State University's N.O.B.M.S.T. birthed a Brotherhood Forged in Music, further strengthening the organization. This partnership united two powerful movements, creating a social organization that thrives across multiple Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The motto "N.O.B.M.S.T." continues to embody the spirit of unity and perseverance that drives our organization.
Incorporation brought a new chapter to our story. On April 17th, 2009, Nu Phi Omicron became officially incorporated as a collegiate music organization. This significant milestone solidified our status as a recognized entity across campuses nationwide. While once for musicians from New Orleans only, we realized our mission had a broader purpose. Nu Phi Omicron then became a safe haven of support for all Louisiana musicians and performance programs.
Our journey reached another pinnacle on March 22nd, 2023, when Nu Phi Omicron proudly received its 501(c)(3) status. This achievement underscores our unwavering commitment to fostering educational, charitable, and community-oriented initiatives.
Nu Phi Omicron, Inc. is more than just an organization; it’s a movement, a brotherhood, and a beacon for aspiring musicians across the nation. We invite you to be part of our story, whether as a member, supporter, or ally in our mission to uplift communities through the power of music.
